What Are Invalid Email Addresses?

An email address is considered invalid if it cannot reliably receive messages due to issues such as:

  • Invalid Syntax: The email address does not conform to standard formatting rules (e.g., missing '@' symbol, incorrect domain structure).
  • Non-Existent Mailbox: The specified mailbox does not exist on the recipient's mail server.
  • Domain Issues: The domain is inactive, does not accept mail, or lacks proper DNS records.
  • Mailbox Full: The recipient's mailbox has exceeded its storage quota and cannot accept new messages.
  • Typographical Errors: Common misspellings or typos in the email address (e.g., 'gmial.com' instead of 'gmail.com').
  • Temporary or Disposable Addresses: Email addresses that are intended for short-term use and may become inactive quickly.
  • Spam Traps: Email addresses used to identify and monitor spam senders; sending to these can harm your sender reputation.

Identifying and removing invalid email addresses helps maintain a healthy email list, improves deliverability, and protects your sender reputation.
