To ensure that your SMS messages successfully reach your contacts and therefore maximize the value of your SMS credits, the mobile number formats have been unified and standardized. Follow the formats and instructions in this article when you import contacts using our template spreadsheet.

The Format Guidelines
The mobile number should follow the format of “+[country code][mobile number]”. For example, an US phone number should be expressed as “+12345678900”. The plus sign (+) is required.
When you upload contacts with our template spreadsheet, you can choose either of the following two methods:
- Enter the mobile number that begins with the country code in the aforementioned format. The system can handle the following three cases containing special characters and spaces:
- +12/345(678)900: The slash (/) and parentheses will be removed. Applicable for both the half- and full-width forms of characters.
- +12 *- 345678900: The space, asterisk, and dash will be removed. Applicable for both the half- and full-width forms of characters.
- +012345678900/+0012345678900: The zeros (0) between the plus sign (+) and the first non-zero character will be removed.
- If you don’t know or aren't sure about the country code, enter just the mobile number in the F column (Mobile number) and also enter the country’s alpha-2 code in the R column (Country alpha-2 code). You can find the alpha-2 codes in the Country Code List tab of the template.
Mobile numbers that aren't in the correct format will be determined invalid. See the Identifying Invalid Mobile Phones section below for more details.

Identifying Invalid Mobile Phones
When the mobile number is valid and the contact has opted in to your SMS messages, a message icon appears in the Channel column, indicating that the SMS messages can be sent to that contact. If either one of the conditions is not met, the message icon is not displayed. An error message is displayed for invalid numbers.
