SmartPush now lets you track the performance of your email and SMS campaigns by user segments, helping you identify which audience groups are driving conversions and which ones need re-engagement or optimization.

With Segment Reports, you can view key daily performance trends of each user group, including total revenue, order count, open rate, and click rate.

Note:This feature is currently available only to whitelisted users. If you are interested in using it, please contact our team to request access for your store.

The Importance of Segments

Using segments allows you to group users based on shared characteristics or behaviors, such as purchase frequency, average order value, location, or engagement level. This makes it easier to:

  • Personalize content for better relevance and response
  • Identify high-performing customer types and focus resources effectively
  • Re-engage underperforming groups with tailored offers or campaigns

Well-defined segments help improve targeting, increase ROI, and reduce messaging fatigue for your customers.

Global Filters and Data Updates

Segment Reports break performance down into four areas: group size, repurchase behavior, spending, and channel engagement. The global filters at the top of the report control the data displayed across these sections.

Use the date range filter to select Past 7 Days, Past 30 Days, or Past 60 Days (Past 30 Days is selected by default). Each period is automatically compared to the immediately preceding period of the same length — for example, if you select Past 30 Days, SmartPush compares the most recent 30 days to the 30 days before that.

A Data updated timestamp at the top shows when the report last refreshed. Hovering over it shows: “This report updates daily. Data is current as of yesterday 24:00 (UTC+8). Note: The number of contacts in a segment changes daily — each day's data reflects that day's segment membership, not the current live segment.”

Note: Segment Reports differ from the Data tab on the Segment page. The Data tab always shows real-time figures for your segment's current members. Segment Reports show each day's data based on that day's segment membership, updated once a day — so the two may not always match exactly, especially if your segment's membership changes often.

How percentage change is displayed:

  • If the prior period's value was 0, the change shows as “–”.
  • If the current period's value is 0, the change shows as -100%.
  • If there's no change between periods, it shows 0% with a flat/no-change icon.
  • If the increase is greater than 999%, it shows as “>999%”.
  • If the change is smaller than 0.01%, it shows as “<0.01%”.

Group Size Trend

This section shows how your segment's contact base is changing over time.

MetricDescription
Total ContactsNumber of contacts currently meeting the segment's conditions. Updates in real time and isn't affected by the date filter.
New ContactsNumber of contacts newly added to the segment during the selected period.
Contacts LostNumber of contacts that left the segment during the selected period.
Total Valid EmailsNumber of subscribed email addresses in the segment. Updates in real time.
Total Valid Phone NumbersNumber of subscribed phone numbers in the segment. Updates in real time.
Note: Total Contacts updates in real time, but its percentage change compares data as of yesterday and updates once a day.

A trend chart plots Total Contacts, New Contacts, and Contacts Lost over the selected date range.

Interpreting the Results

Here are some tips for using segment report insights to your advantage:

  • High revenue but low open/click rates? These customers are buying through other channels—try re-engaging them with exclusive email/SMS promotions.
  • High opens but low revenue? Content may be engaging, but the offers or products may not be relevant. Test new incentives or messages.
  • High click-through and conversion? This segment is highly engaged—consider increasing frequency or targeting them in upsell campaigns.
  • Low activity across the board? Consider excluding these users from future sends or moving them to a reactivation journey.

The report is not just about tracking numbers—it helps you decide what action to take for each user group.
