The Universal Content feature in SmartPush’s Email Editor allows merchants to save and reuse email blocks or sections across multiple campaigns and automation flows. This provides greater flexibility and consistency in email design, without needing to duplicate or recreate entire emails.

What Is Universal Content
Universal Content lets you save a block (a single content unit, such as a text or image block) or a section (a group of multiple blocks) for reuse in other emails. Once saved, the content appears in the “Universal Content” library, where you can easily drag and drop it into any new campaign or flow email.
This feature helps merchants:
- Reuse existing content modules (e.g., headers, product showcases, footers) across multiple emails.
- Maintain consistent brand layouts.
- Save time by reducing repetitive editing work.
Why is it Useful
Previously, merchants had to duplicate entire emails to reuse certain content, which was time-consuming and prone to inconsistencies.
With Universal Content, you can:
- Save frequently used modules (e.g., promotional banners, loyalty messages).
- Edit once and update everywhere: apply changes across all emails using that content.
- Choose independent edits when only one email needs adjustment.
How to Create Universal Content
You can create Universal Content directly from the Email Editor for both campaign and flow emails.
To Save a Block:
- In the Email Editor, hover over the block you want to save.
- Click the Star icon.
- Enter a name for your block (default: “Block”).
- Once created, the Universal Content settings will appear on the right panel.
To Save a Section:
- Hover over the section that includes multiple blocks.
- Click the Star icon.
- Enter a name for your section (default: “Section”).
- Once created, the section will appear in the Universal Content library.

How to Access and Use Universal Content
- Go to SmartPush > Campaigns or Automations, then open the Email Editor.
- In the left panel, select Saved Content > Universal.
- Browse, search, or filter your saved Universal Content.
- Drag and drop a block or section into your email.
You can also rename, view, or delete Universal Content from this list. Deleting a piece removes it from the Universal Content library but does not affect existing emails that already use it.
How to Edit and Update Universal Content
When you edit Universal Content, you can choose between two editing modes depending on how broadly you want to apply the change:
Option 1: Edit Across All Instances
Use this option if you want to update every email or template that includes this piece of Universal Content.
- Select the content in the editor.
- Choose Edit across all instances.
- Make your edits, then click Update Content.
- Confirm to apply updates to all related templates, draft campaigns, and paused/unfinished flows.
While this mode is active, you cannot edit other blocks until the update is published.
Option 2: Unlink and Edit Independently
Use this option if you want to edit the content only for the current email.
- Select the content.
- Choose Unlink and edit independently.
- Make your changes: updates will only affect this email.
Once unlinked, the content becomes independent and can be saved again as a new Universal Content block or section.
Tips & Notes
- Duplication Behavior: If you add the same Universal Content multiple times in one email (e.g., “Header A” twice), editing one instance in “Edit across all instances” mode will update all occurrences.
- Access Limits: Flow emails may restrict certain block types (e.g., review or discount blocks). You’ll receive a prompt if the content contains unsupported modules.
- Free Plan Support: Merchants on the free plan can still use and edit Universal Content, even if it includes paid blocks.
-
Best Practice: Use clear, descriptive names when saving content to make searching easier (e.g., “Summer Promo Banner” instead of “Section 1”).
