Viewing Overview Metrics in Automations

The Automation Overview Metrics page provides a consolidated view of how your automated workflows perform in SmartPush. With clearer metric definitions, a Statistics Period (Send Time) filter, and enhanced export logic, you can now better understand automation-driven engagement and revenue, and avoid common data discrepancies.

This article explains how overview metrics are calculated, how the statistics period works, and how to correctly interpret and export automation data.

What Are Automation Overview Metrics?

Automation Overview Metrics summarize the performance of all automation tasks under a unified view. The data focuses on message sending behavior and the orders attributed to those messages, helping you evaluate the real impact of automated journeys such as welcome flows, abandoned cart reminders, or post-purchase follow-ups.

Note: Orders on this page are attributed based on the message send time, not the order creation time. Data also includes review invitation emails.

You can access this page from: SmartPush > Automations

How Metrics Are Calculated

To prevent inconsistencies between dashboards and detailed reports, SmartPush has unified the attribution logic on the Automation Overview page.

Key Attribution Rule

All metrics on this page are calculated based on the message send date.

This means:

  • Orders are counted if they are attributed to messages sent within the selected statistics period.
  • Orders themselves may be created after the selected date range.

This logic ensures consistency between:

  • Overview metrics
  • Task-level data
  • Exported reports

Using the Statistics Period (Send Time)

What Is the Statistics Period?

The Statistics Period is a time filter based on Send Time. It controls:

  • Which automation tasks appear in the list
  • How all metrics on the page are calculated
  • What data is included in exports

How It Works

  • The filter is empty by default
  • You can select any historical date range
  • There is no maximum date span limit

When a statistics period is applied:

  • Only automation tasks with Send Count > 0 during that period are shown
  • Tasks are sorted by Send Count (descending) by default
  • Filtering by Task Name does not apply this Send Count restriction or sorting rule.

Metric Time Attribution

When you select a statistics period (for example, Last 7 Days):

  • Send Count: Counts messages sent within the selected period
  • Delivered Users / Open Rate / Click Rate: Calculated only from messages sent within the selected period
  • Orders & Revenue: Includes orders attributed to messages sent within the selected period, regardless of when the order was placed

Understanding Overview Metrics

Overview Metrics Definitions

Metric Description
Send Count Number of messages sent by automation tasks within the selected statistics period
Unique Open Rate Unique opens ÷ deliveries for messages sent within the statistics period  (SMS excluded)
Unique Click Rate Unique clicks ÷ deliveries for messages sent within the statistics period
Conversion Rate Number of attributed orders ÷ unique clicks from messages sent within the statistics period
Orders Number of successful orders attributed to automation messages sent within the statistics period
Revenue Total order value from orders attributed to automation messages sent within the statistics period
Average Order Value Revenue ÷ number of orders attributed to automation messages sent within the statistics period
Note: All metrics are calculated using the same send-time attribution logic.

Task Conversion Funnel

The Task Conversion Funnel visualizes how users progress through each automation task.

Funnel Metrics

  • Sent: Messages sent within the selected statistics period
  • Delivered: Successfully delivered messages sent within the selected statistics period
  • Opened: Unique users who opened messages sent within the selected statistics period
    (SMS excluded)
  • Clicked: Unique users who clicked messages sent within the selected statistics period

This funnel helps identify where users drop off and where optimizations are needed.

Exporting Automation Data

How Export Works

The Export button is located at the same level as the filters and is fully linked to your current filter settings.

  • If Statistics Period is selected: Export uses the selected date range
  • If Statistics Period is not selected: Export defaults to the past 30 days (by send time)

Hovering over the export button shows helpful reminders:

  • Export all filtered results. We recommend narrowing the range for better performance.
  • If send time is not selected, data will be exported for the past 30 days by default.

Export Options

When clicking Export, you can choose:

Export Automation Task Details

  • Exports task-level data only
  • Exported data matches exactly what is shown on the page
  • The selected statistics period is included in the Excel file

Export Automation Task & Node Details

  • Exports:
    • Automation task data
    • All nodes under each task (even if a node has no data
  • All metrics are calculated based on send time within the selected statistics period
  • The statistics period is included in the Excel file

Tips & Best Practices

  • Always use the Statistics Period (Send Time) when comparing metrics across automations
  • Do not compare automation overview data with dashboards that use order creation time
  • Narrow your date range before exporting to improve performance
  • Use the conversion funnel to identify weak points in automated journeys
  • Combine automation insights with segmentation to further optimize targeting
