The Email Channel Analysis page gives you a centralized view of your email delivery health, so you can spot performance issues, understand how different sending domains and recipient providers behave, and take action before problems affect your campaigns. By tracking metrics like delivery rate, open rate, bounce rate, and complaint rate across all your email activity, you can quickly identify which areas need attention and optimize your sending setup over time. This guide explains how to navigate the Email Channel Analysis page, interpret the overview metrics, analyze performance by sending domain, and review results by recipient email provider.

Accessing Email Channel Analysis

To open the Email Channel Analysis page, go to SmartPush > Data Analysis > Email Channel Analysis.

The page loads with the last 30 days selected by default, compared against the previous period.

Setting Your Date Range and Filters

All data on the page updates based on the filters you set at the top. To configure your view:

  1. Date range: Select your reporting period. The default is the past 30 days. You can choose any custom range up to 365 days.
  2. Comparison period: Choose a period to compare against. The default is the previous period.
  3. Marketing type: Filter by All, Campaigns, or Automations to focus on a specific type of email activity.
Note: The marketing type filter applies across the entire page. All sections update to reflect your selection.

Reviewing Overview Metrics

The overview section shows a set of metric cards that summarize your email performance for the selected period. Each card displays the current value and a comparison against your chosen reference period.

Available Metrics

The following metrics are available on the overview metric cards:

MetricDefinition
SendsTotal number of emails sent during the selected date range.
Delivery RateDelivered emails ÷ total sends, for all emails sent during the selected date range.
Unique Open RateUnique opens (by recipient) ÷ delivered emails, for all emails sent during the selected date range.
Unique Click RateUnique clicks (by recipient) ÷ delivered emails, for all emails sent during the selected date range.
Unsubscribe RateUnsubscribed addresses ÷ total sends. Counts each address that clicked Unsubscribe and completed the opt-out.
Bounce RateBounced addresses ÷ total sends. Counts addresses that could not receive the email due to temporary or permanent issues.
Complaint RateComplained addresses ÷ total sends. Counts addresses that reported the email as spam to their email provider.
Tip: Click any metric card to update the trend chart and the Email Provider Breakdown table below it: both sections show data for the selected metric.

Filtering by Sending Domain

Above the metric cards, use the Sending Domain filter to narrow the overview to one or more specific domains. You can select your default sending domain and up to three custom brand domains. By default, all available domains are selected.

Viewing Data Trends

Below the metric cards, the Data Trends chart shows how your selected metric changes over time. Use the two tabs to switch between views:

  • Overall Data: A single line chart showing the aggregate trend for the selected metric across all providers.
  • By Email Provider: Four separate lines — one each for Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Other — so you can compare trends across recipient providers side by side.
Note: The time axis adapts to your selected date range: up to 3 days shows hourly data; 4–90 days shows daily data; over 90 days shows monthly data.

Reviewing the Email Provider Breakdown Table

The table below the trend chart breaks down your selected metric by recipient email provider (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Other). The table columns change based on which metric card is selected — for example, selecting Delivery Rate shows the delivery rate, number of delivered emails, and comparison data for each provider.

Analyzing Performance by Sending Domain

The Sending Domain Analysis section shows a breakdown table with one row per sending domain (default domain plus any custom brand domains, up to four total). The table is sorted by sends in descending order by default.

Each row includes:

  • Sends: Total emails sent from this domain.
  • Delivery Rate: Delivery rate, number of delivered emails, and comparison data.
  • Unique Open Rate: Open rate, number of unique opens, and comparison data.
  • Unique Click Rate: Click rate, number of unique clicks, and comparison data.
  • Unsubscribe Rate: Unsubscribe rate, number of unsubscribed addresses, and comparison data.
  • Bounce Rate: Bounce rate, number of bounced addresses, and comparison data.
  • Complaint Rate: Complaint rate, number of complained addresses, and comparison data.

To drill down into a specific domain, click View Details in the action column.

Viewing Sending Domain Details

Clicking View Details opens a detail panel for that domain. The date range and marketing type default to the same values set on the main page.

The detail panel includes:

Trend chart: Select a metric from the dropdown (Sends, Delivery Rate, Unique Open Rate, Unique Click Rate, Bounce Rate, Unsubscribe Rate, or Complaint Rate) to view its trend over time. Switch between:

  • Overall: A single line showing the domain's overall performance for the selected metric.
  • By Email Provider: Four lines showing how this domain performs when sending to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Other recipients.

Reputation Score: Shows a current reputation score for this domain across each recipient email provider, displayed as a score with a color-coded ring chart:

  • Green (8–10): Strong sender reputation.
  • Yellow (4–7): Moderate — monitor for issues.
  • Red (0–3): Low — action is recommended.
Note: The reputation score is calculated based on your open rate and unsubscribe rate. Improving engagement and reducing unsubscribes will raise your score over time.

Provider breakdown table: Shows this domain's performance split by recipient email provider, with all the same metrics as the main table.

Analyzing Performance by Recipient Email Provider

The Recipient Provider Analysis section shows a breakdown table with one row per recipient email provider: Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Other. The table is sorted by sends in descending order by default.

To drill down into a specific provider, click View Details in the action column.

Viewing Recipient Provider Details

The detail panel for a recipient provider works similarly to the sending domain detail panel. You can view a trend chart for any metric, and switch between:

  • Overall: A single line showing the selected provider's overall trend.
  • By Sending Domain: Up to four lines — one per sending domain — so you can compare how each of your domains performs when reaching this provider's inbox.

The detail panel also includes a breakdown table showing performance for this provider split by each sending domain.

Important Notes for Email Channel Analysis

  • All metrics are based on the email send date, not the date the action (open, click, etc.) occurred.
  • Date ranges can span up to 365 calendar days.
  • Recipient email providers are categorized as follows: Gmail and Googlemail addresses are Google; Outlook, Hotmail, Live (non-educational), and MSN addresses are Microsoft; Yahoo, Rocketmail, and Ymail addresses are Yahoo. All other addresses fall into Other.
  • To optimize your sender reputation, click the Delivery Optimization button in the top-right corner of the page to go to the Delivery Capability settings.
