SmartPush AI-Powered Segments help you build precise audience groups faster without needing to manually configure every filter condition. Instead of starting from scratch, you simply describe the audience you want in plain language, and the AI generates the segment conditions for you based on your store's data. This is especially useful when you want to target a specific type of customer but are not sure which exact conditions or thresholds to use. This guide explains what AI-Powered Segments are, how the AI generation process works, and how to review, apply, and provide feedback on the results.

Notes:

  • AI-Powered Segments is currently available to Standard plan merchants and above. Contact your SHOPLINE account manager to learn more.
  • AI-Powered Segments work alongside SmartPush's standard segment builder. For an overview of how segments work, refer to "Understanding SmartPush Segments."

What Is AI-Powered Segment Generation?

AI-Powered Segment Generation is a feature built into the segment creation page. When you describe your target audience in the text input; for example, "Customers with email clicks in the last 30 days and no orders to date," the AI analyzes your description, consults your store's data, and fills in the segment filter conditions automatically.

The AI responds in the same language you type in. If you write your prompt in Japanese, the AI returns results in Japanese.

Plan Requirements

AI-Powered Segments are available to merchants on the Standard plan and above. If your store is on a lower tier, you will see an upgrade prompt in the AI panel. Click the prompt to go to the plan page and upgrade your subscription.

Generating a Segment with AI

To use AI-Powered Segments, open the segment creation page and locate the AI generation panel at the top of the conditions area. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Enter Your Prompt

In the AI input field, type a description of the audience you want to target. Be as specific as you can about the behavior or characteristics you have in mind. For example:

  • "Customers with email clicks in the last 30 days and no orders to date."
  • "Customers with their last order over 30 days ago and a product page visit in the last 7 days."
  • "Subscribers who opened emails in the last 30 days but didn't click"
Note: The input field accepts up to 200 characters. Write your prompt in the language you prefer, the AI will respond in the same language.

Step 2: Click Generate

Click Generate to submit your prompt. The AI will begin processing your request. While it works, you will see status messages:

  • Thinking... — The AI is analyzing your prompt.
  • Retrieving business data... — The AI is querying your store's data to determine appropriate thresholds and conditions.
  • Data retrieved — The AI has finished gathering context and is preparing the result.
Note: You can click Stop at any time during generation to cancel the request. Your original prompt will be preserved in the input field.

Step 3: Review the Result

When generation is complete, the AI panel shows:

  • AI Summary: A brief explanation of the reasoning behind the suggested conditions, such as which data signals were used and why specific thresholds were chosen.
  • Generated Conditions: The full set of segment filter conditions the AI recommends, including condition type, operator, value, and time range.

Review both the summary and the conditions carefully before applying them.

Note: If your prompt is outside the AI's capability or unrelated to segment building, no conditions will be generated. You will see an error message. Click Re-edit to revise your prompt and try again.

Step 4: Apply the Conditions

Once you are satisfied with the result, click Apply to fill the segment conditions page with the AI-generated conditions.

Important: If you already have conditions set on the segment page, a confirmation dialog will appear. Clicking Apply will clear your existing conditions and replace them with the AI-generated ones. Click Cancel to go back without making changes.

After applying, the AI panel collapses and the generated conditions appear in the standard segment filter area. From here, you can review, adjust, or add to the conditions manually before clicking Create Segment to finalize.

Step 5: Rate the Result

After the AI returns a result, you can share feedback on its quality:

  • Satisfied: Click the thumbs-up to mark the result as helpful.
  • Not Satisfied: Click the thumbs-down to open the feedback form. Select a problem category (required) and optionally add a description. Click Submit to send your feedback.
Tip: Your feedback helps improve future AI-generated results. Even a quick category selection is valuable.

Re-editing Your Prompt

At any point after generation, click Re-edit to return to the input field and revise your prompt. Click Generate again to produce a new result.

Usage Limits

To ensure stable performance, AI-Powered Segment generation has the following limits:

Limit Details
Per 10 minutes Maximum 20 generation requests. If you reach this limit, wait 10 minutes before trying again.
Per day Maximum 200 generation requests. The limit resets the following day.
Note: If you hit a limit, you will see a message explaining when you can generate again. Your existing segment conditions are not affected.

Editing an AI-Generated Segment Later

After you save a segment that was built using AI-Powered Segments, the AI generation panel resets to its initial state the next time you open the segment for editing. Previous prompts and AI results are not saved. You can run a new AI generation at that point, or edit the conditions manually as you would with any standard segment.

Tip: To learn more about editing, copying, and managing segments, refer to "Understanding SmartPush Segments."

Tips for Writing Effective Prompts

The more specific your prompt, the more accurate the AI result will be. Keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Describe the behavior and time frame together: "Customers who visited the site more than 3 times in the past 7 days but did not check out"
  • Include value signals if relevant: "High-spending customers" or "Customers with an average order value above the store average"
  • Mention what the customer has NOT done if that defines your segment: "Active subscribers who have never placed an order"
  • Avoid vague or unrelated descriptions: the AI is designed for segment building only and will let you know if a prompt is out of scope

Important Notes for AI-Powered Segments

  • Generated conditions from AI-Powered Segments are suggestions. Always review them before applying.
  • The AI can only generate conditions using filter types that are available in your store's current plan. Conditions outside your plan's scope will not be included.
